To celebrate 20 years since the first edition of 2005, the Marranzano World Fest is renewed and multiplied with an edition “exploded” in time and space, with a cycle of premieres and immersive residential experiences distributed during the summer, to conclude with a comprehensive edition spread in different places of the historic center of Catania between September and early October.
The instrument in focus is again the frame drum, u tammureddu that, just like u marranzanu, is a fantastic vehicle for the exploration and exploitation of the intangible heritage of Sicilian music, but at the same time valid compass to guide us in a kaleidoscopic sound journey that embraces the musical traditions of the whole world.
Here is the explanation! 🐐
The goat was chosen as a symbol of this edition of the Marranzano World Fest for many reasons, which are intertwined between tradition, irony and contemporary vision:
🐐 *Symbol of rurality and freedom*
The goat is a free, independent animal that does not follow herds or compulsory paths. It represents a non-stereotypical rurality, alive and mobile, which blends well with the sound world of the festival.
🐐 *Nomadic and resistant animal*
Like the sounds that MWF explores, the goat is nomadic by nature and can adapt to any terrain. As marranzani, drums and folk voices travel through cultures and geographies, the goat becomes a metaphor for this ability to cross and resist.
🐐 *Irony and lightness*
The MWF wanted for 2025 a more pop, playful and ironic communication: the goat – in its graphic version – becomes an immediate icon, likeable and memetic, capable of conveying the profound contents of the festival in an accessible and non-rhetorical way.
🐐 *Global animal*
The goat is present in all pastoral cultures of the world: from Asia to Africa, from the Mediterranean to the Americas. In this sense, it represents a universal icon, perfect for a festival that celebrates the meeting between music and cultures.
