Two musical worlds meet at the foot of Mount Etna: the hypnotic guitar sound of Tuareg band Terakaft and the raw, uncompromising songwriting of Sicilian artist Cesare Basile.

Viremma brings together the voices and guitars of the Sahara and Sicily, tracing shared stories of movement, resistance and belonging across the Mediterranean. Terakaft, whose name means “caravan” in Tamasheq, are internationally recognised for their distinctive desert blues. Cesare Basile, twice awarded the prestigious Targa Tenco, blends archaic Sicilian language, folk, blues and rock with a strong social and political voice. Together, they create a meeting of traditions rooted in freedom, dignity and musical exchange.

IpercusSonici

The Liotro Sound

An explosive sound born in Catania, where ancient instruments and Sicilian polyrhythms meet rock, reggae, drum’n’bass and electronic energy.

Founded in 2002, IpercusSonici developed their distinctive “Liotro Sound” around the marranzano, percussion, electric bass and Sicilian-language vocals. Their high-energy performances have travelled from Sicily to major festivals across Europe, North Africa and Japan, including WOMAD, where their music was described as “The new adventurous sound of Sicily”. Their work also reflects a longstanding commitment to social and environmental causes.

A dynamic Sicilian duo connecting the storytelling of folk and blues with the ancestral pulse of Southern Italian frame drums.

Singer-songwriter Mimì Sterrantino and percussionist Davide Campisi reinterpret Sicilian roots music through powerful vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, tamburello and tammorra. Their performances range from intimate acoustic sets to rhythm-driven live shows. Their collaboration has travelled through European festival and showcase networks, including TREMOLO Forte. With their electronic project Dù, the duo also explores loops, synthesisers and live electronics, extending their sound towards contemporary festival dance floors.

A contemporary Sicilian folk orchestra bringing together traditional instruments, original songs and musical influences from across the Mediterranean and beyond.

Founded in 2017 as a collaborative ensemble by Associazione Musicale Etnea and directed by composer and multi-instrumentalist Puccio Castrogiovanni, Jacarànda creates original music in Sicilian. Bagpipes, friscaletti, marranzani, accordion, mandolins and frame drums meet guitars, bass, winds and instruments from Brazil, Turkey and the Middle East. The orchestra has developed an extensive body of performances, recordings and cross-disciplinary collaborations, including work with contemporary dance and European mobility projects TREMOLO and tremolo_forte. Its recordings have also emerged from socially engaged artistic projects involving young people in juvenile detention and international guest artists.

An intimate and evocative acoustic duo reimagining Sicily’s traditional songs, stories and ritual rhythms through two voices, guitar, marranzano and frame drums.

Le Sikelia bring together singer and percussionist Giulia Fassari and guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Elisa Messina. Their repertoire draws on Sicilian folk songs, lullabies and oral traditions, blending Mediterranean roots with contemporary acoustic arrangements and an exploratory approach to sound. Moving between intimate concerts, cultural festivals and participatory musical experiences, the duo creates a dialogue between memory and the present. Their performances include appearances at Marranzano World Fest, Sicily Folk Fest and ViniMilo. In 2025, the project received a cultural and artistic outreach award at A Chiazza Fest in Acireale.
