Tammurinari Siciliani

The “tammurinu“, a cylindrical double-headed drum with a shoulder strap, holds significant importance in the musical traditions of many inland areas of Sicily. Even today, the construction techniques and specific repertoires associated with various religious and secular celebrations are passed down orally in these regions.

MWF dedicates special attention in this edition to these instruments and their repertoires, which are lesser-known examples of musical aggregation in traditional Sicilian culture. Representatives from “tamburinari” companies from Casteltermini (AG), Troina (EN), Misilmeri (PA) and Monforte San Giorgio (ME) will be featured in this context.
