Workshop | Persian Ney with Pejman Tadayon

The ney is a reed flute (arundo donax) with ancient origins, spread from the Maghreb to Persia. In Turkey, the ney is characterized by the presence of a horn mouthpiece (başpare) and the use of larger dimensions. This instrument is fundamental in the traditions of Sufism, thanks to its refined and elegant technique that produces a deep and mystical sound.

Activities of the Workshop

• Sound Production
  Techniques to generate the characteristic sound of the ney, fundamental to learn to play the instrument
• Intonation Mastery
  Study of perdelers (degrees or tones) according to the Turkish theoretical system, including understanding of microtonal fractions
• Use of Different Registers
  Deepening of the various sound registers of the ney to make the most of its expressive range
  
• Embellishments
  Embellishment techniques to enrich the melodies played with the ney
• Lip Techniques
  Use of different lip techniques to refine sound control and improve pitch
  

The workshop is aimed at anyone who wants to deepen the knowledge of this instrument, to those who already play it and to those who approach it for the first time.

Pejman Tadayon, nato a Esfahan (Iran) nel 1977, è un musicista, compositore e pittore persiano, considerato uno dei massimi esperti di musica persiana e sufi in Italia. Ha studiato l’antico repertorio musicale persiano e strumenti tradizionali come târ e setâr con maestri rinomati. Trasferitosi in Italia nel 2003, ha frequentato l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze e studiato musica occidentale. A Roma, ha collaborato con il gruppo Sarawan e fondato il gruppo Navà, incidendo il CD “Viaggio nei colori”. Nel 2009 ha creato il gruppo YAR e pubblicato l’album “Yar Ensemble”.
Nel 2013 ha fondato il Pejman Tadayon Ensemble, componendo musiche ispirate a Rumi e al Sufismo, pubblicando l’album “Universal Sufi Music”. Dal 2014, ha integrato corde nei suoi dipinti, creando opere di pittura sonora esposte nella Galleria Sonora di Roma, dove organizza anche eventi musicali. Tadayon insegna oud, târ, setâr e teoria della musica orientale. Nel 2015 ha co-fondato il progetto Cafè Loti, che unisce musica colta e popolare.
Ha collaborato con vari artisti e partecipato a produzioni teatrali e cinematografiche, tra cui “L’ultimo Pulcinella” e “Polvere di Baghdad”. Ha anche realizzato il docufilm “Quando Rumi incontra Francesco”. Tadayon è promotore del dialogo musicale tra Oriente e Occidente.
Pejman Tadayon continua a essere una figura rispettata nel mondo della musica persiana e un ambasciatore della sua ricca tradizione musicale. La sua passione per il tar e il suo impegno per l’eccellenza musicale lo rendono un artista straordinario e ammirato in tutto il mondo.
